The cycling industry, and specifically the IBD, rely on a constant supply of professional and highly skilled mechanics. This project seeks to create a platform to encourage, educate, and then certify current and future professional bicycle mechanics.
With the traditional methodology of mechanic assessment in mind, the PBMA is devoted to the development of a certification program that will simplify the process of determining the aptitude of the Professional Bicycle Mechanic. This will achieve the goal of simplification for mechanics themselves (being able to effectively present their experience and qualifications) and for employers (adequately assess a potential new hire).
At Interbike 2017 the PBMA will unveil the foundation for a system of bicycle mechanical certification. This introductory certification will become the basis of a long term, multi-tiered, industry certification program designed to touch every facet of the professional bicycle mechanic experience.
